Hey! I’m Jean Estelle Hicks

I’m glad you're here! Truly, Like, the fact that you wanna read a blogpost about lil’ ole’ me?

I'm shooketh. I hope that you get encouraged and feel like you know me way better by the time you're done!

So get ready cause this is the deep dive into who I am and why I do what I do...

So first off some things you should know, I come from a big family, 7 kids total, and I’m smack in the middle (Middle child survivor) I loved growing up with built in friends all around and the wild time we all had with so many personalities getting to be in one house!

I learned a TON about fun chaos and to be honest I think that’s where I learned to love working with people in the busiest times of their lives…

I first wanted to be a photographer when I watched Toby Mcguire’s spiderman and after reading some of the comics discovered that we had a lot in common, “Heyyy I’m also a nerdy kid from Queens!” Anyway after that I figured I was half-way there so I got suuuper into it after that but I started out with wanting to be a cinematographer eventually learning a ton about photography and diving in!

Candid photos in sequence show joyful expressions against a green leafy backdrop outdoors.

Photo for reference but Not even close to all of us lol

Jesus led the way as I leaned in at the end of 2019, totally terrified to get started and not sure how I could even become a photographer, I wanted to do what I felt like I’d be good at, DON’T WE ALL but I didn’t start out good at this, I had to figure things out and I considered going very different directions in life because this seemed like the hardest one at the time but I’m so glad I didn’t!

I shot my first wedding, not just any wedding either but an actual secret COVID wedding and was so blown away by how the things I grew up learning became SO USEFUL on a wedding day! I was able to serve, love on and help in ways I didn’t even realize I would when that first brave couple took me on and I’m forever hooked and grateful…

I feel like a lot of your purpose is tied to what you’re scared to do, when you can let go of the “What if’s?” and start looking at the days as they are, finite.

That’s where the courage comes in, I don’t have time to waste, I only get this one life and I’d rather spend it, building, serving and doing what keeps my soul alive then anything else.

Jesus said to love God and love people, When I do one truly typically the other follows, and days with couples just seem to always be one of those days I get to love on his creation.

I love seeing brides and grooms come ALIVE in their creativity and drive on their day and the days leading up to it, relaxing into who God made for them to be with on this side of heaven and pour themselves into each other, even if it doesn't all happen at once, the wedding day is a pretty good time to see the fires roaring.

When I get to create art while making sure your warmest memories are secured for a lifetime? Yeah, that about takes the cake most days.

Other then all that I’m pretty sure if you follow me on Instagram it will soon become apparent that I am a huge Jane Austen Fan, by any means necessary have chosen to get my husband to at least watch one of the film adaptations of her books and pretty much learned to read on Anne of Green Gables, C.S Lewis and Jane Austen's writings, I have deep attraction for all things romantic and truly free.

If you're wondering about my Husband I have a WHOLE dang blog post about him so check that out if you wanna hear me talk about that stud. ;)
